The 7.3 magnitude earthquake that jolted Ilocos Region on 27 July 2022 displaced 65 families at Brgy. Matibuey, San Emilio Ilocos Sur. The barangay is situated at the foot of a mountain and landslides and rockfalls threatened the lives of the residents. All the residents were evacuated to higher grounds- 47 families were brought to makeshift tents in an open field at Sitio Dagdag and 18 households were transferred to a covered court at Sitio Lidawan of the said town.

These calamity victims were the recipients of gift packs from the UNP Student Council (UNP-SC) on 25 August 2022. With the help of Hon. Joey Warren Bragado, Municipal Mayor of San Emilio, the relief goods were brought personally to the victims.

UNP-SC initiated “Project Namnama”- a relief operation for Northern Luzon earthquake victims. Lead by Mr. Daryll Jeremy Virtudes, SC President, the SC solicited donations from Local Councils, faculty, and other benefactors.

Hon. Eva Marie S. Medina, a member of the Board of Regent, together with some members of Balikatan sa Vigan, were also with the relief operation team and donated relief goods. Some staff members of the Office of Student Affairs and Services, and the Public Information Office assisted the SC in the distribution of gift packs.
