In response to the challenges brought by the novel Coronavirus 2019 (Covid-19), the University of Northern Philippines community has launched the “Tulong Mula sa Puso ng UNPians” program. The amount raised through pledges totals to Php 765,600 as of April 21.
The members of the UNP Board of Regents, faculty, staff, alumni, students, and other benefactors under the leadership of President Erwin F. Cadorna, have joined hands in raising the amount which is being spent for different activities to help students stranded in dormitories, frontliners, and the less fortunate members of the Ilocos Sur community.
“I was hesitant at first in launching the fund raising because all of us are suffering the brunt of this pandemic. But my heart goes out to those who need our help, so the administration still did it,” President Cadorna stated.
“Their support and generosity are just overwhelming,” he added, mentioning the 449 employees who heeded the call.
The fund raising is still ongoing.
Knowing that even the government is hard up in helping the needy get through this crisis, President Cadorna thought of ways through which the University could extend its hands to the community.
On April 7, after consulting other administrators and faculty members, Dr. Cadorna launched the fund drive by means of pledge through Google form.
“After only 30 minutes, the drive obtained around Php 100,000. After a day, the fund rose to around Php 400,000. After two days, it then reached more than half a million. It is just overwhelming,” he remarked.
“What is even surprising is that those whom we thought could give less actually gave more. I believe that what counts most is not the amount but the desire and commitment to help our kababayan,” the president narrated.
