The University of Northern Philippines (UNP) has solidified its reputation as a leading environmentally conscious institution, surging to the 4th rank nationally and 295th globally in the 2025 UI GreenMetric World University Rankings.
Amidst a competitive field of 1,745 institutions across 105 countries, UNP’s rise from its 325th global rank last year underscores its intensified commitment to environmental stewardship.
The 2025 rankings, themed “Advancing Sustainable Development Goals in Higher Education: Stories from Our Institutions and Communities,” assessed universities on their ability to integrate green policies into operations and academics.
UNP demonstrated consistent excellence across all six criteria, securing top-tier national standings:
• Transportation: 6th Rank
• Education & Research: 7th Rank
• Water Conservation: 10th Rank
• Setting & Infrastructure: 11th Rank
• Waste Management: 11th Rank
• Energy & Climate Change: 18th Rank
This recognition serves as a testament to the university’s holistic approach to sustainability, made possible through the unwavering commitment of all UNP personnel under the leadership of University President Dr. Erwin F. Cadorna.
As the university continues to climb global rankings, the administration remains dedicated to fostering a forward-thinking academic environment that empowers students, faculty, and staff alike to be stewards of the environment, ensuring a sustainable future for the Ilocos region and beyond.
