A groundbreaking ceremony of the construction of the College of Fine Arts and Design (CFAD) annex was held on 29 June 2020.

The four-storey building is a continuation of the CFAD main building which is about to be finished and is located east of the College of Criminal Justice Education building.

The ground floor will house exhibit and students area. The second floor will contain the dean’s office and faculty room equipped with pantry. The third floor will have a gallery which will feature works of students and faculty. Lastly, the fourth floor will be the audio-visual room. All the floors will have comfort rooms.

The inauguration was attended by University officials and employees led by Pres. Erwin F. Cadorna. Also present were Hon. Joy Crisologo and Hon. William Navarro (private sector representatives) and Hon. Allen Magdaleno de Vera (Faculty Union president). They maintained physical distancing as ordered by the Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) in the time of COVID-19 pandemic.

In his message, Dr. Antonio P. Agustin, Vice President for Finance and Administration, described the event as “very significant” and assured the audience that there will be more projects to come.

Dr. Cadorna also stated that the ceremony is a very significant event because the CFAD annex is the first project to be implemented under his stint as president. Next will be the College of Arts and Sciences and the Carmeling P. Crisologo Building of the College of Medicine.

“We should not sleep on our laurels. If this building turns out great, then it is a challenge for us to make the next infrastructure projects even better,” he challenged the UNP community, especially the staff of the Infrastructure Planning and Development Office.

He also thanked the Board of Regents, mentioning that the building “passed through a very stringent discussion” among the members.

“Let us congratulate ourselves. This is not an achievement of the administration; it is an achievement of the whole UNP family,” Pres. Cadorna ended.29 June 2020
