Lecture through CGAD marks Women’s Month in a Vigan barrio
Barangay San Julian Norte, Vigan City celebrated Women’s Month through a seminar-workshop on the Magna Carta for Women of 2009 (RA 9710) held on March 25, 2024. It was spearheaded by the UNP Center for Gender and Development (CGAD).
As response to the month-long celebration of Women’s Month, the said barangay, through the mandate given to Kagawad Grace Arcaina, VAWC Desk Officer, asked the UNP CGAD to impart a lecture on the Magna Carta for Women of 2009.
Atty. Mirela Verzosa, Assistant Dean of the College of Law, served as the resource speaker.
Atty. Verzosa emphasized the importance of the said law to every woman in the society. She added that the law was for the advantage of women because since time immemorial, discrimination against women was already felt.
The event emphasized that seminar-workshops such as this will not only help society to understand the importance of gender and development and push back against gender-based violence but also to alert people, especially women to take action.
After the talk, the community had sumptuous snacks given by the UNP-CGAD. While the sharing of food is ongoing, Dr. Mae Oliva Piano, the CGAD Extension Coordinator, ended the talk with a wrap-up and an additional point for reflection.
