LS holds three outreach activities
Three outreach activities were spearheaded by the Laboratory Schools of the College of Teacher Education as share to the community outreach program of UNP’s 59th founding anniversary.
A disaster risk reduction management training was held in Salindeg, Vigan City, Ilocos Sur. Led by Mr. Glenn Aludino, Mr. Raffy Celedonio, and Mr. Jayson Burlaza, with support from Mr. Renz Vermil Ayson, the training equipped male participants with essential emergency response skills. Documented by Mr. Christian Domondon, the event underscored UNP’s commitment to fostering safety and preparedness within the community.
A livelihood training on dishwashing liquid making was also held at the same venue. Ms. Arlene Kriszel Tabbuac and Ms. Rizza Agam, with the support of Dr. Anita Arlegui and Dr. Clarita Pere, shared their expertise, teaching female participants practical skills in making dishwashing liquid. The training aimed to empower the community with knowledge that can lead to sustainable livelihood opportunities. The event was documented by Mr. Christian Domondon and Mr. Lester Aaron.
Last was the “Tanim Para Sa Kalikasan: Ecology Project Mahogany Tree Planting” in Brgy. Sto. Tomas, Sto. Domingo, Ilocos Sur. The initiative, led by the University Extension Office, focused on planting mahogany trees to support Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) 13 (Climate Action) and 15 (Life on Land).
The activity aimed to combat climate change and promote sustainable forestry by reducing carbon emissions and enhancing biodiversity.
Resource speakers, Ms. Melody Marquez and Mr. John Christian Bagasala, provided insights on global tree-planting efforts and the specific benefits of mahogany trees. Chief Girl Scout candidate Alayla Paris Barcena delivered the project rationale, emphasizing the significance of this eco-friendly initiative in restoring ecosystems and promoting environmental harmony.
