URDO-MRDC conducts research dissemination at Suyo
On December 19, 2024, the University Research and Development Office (URDO) Mushroom Research and Development Center (MRDC) conducted a research dissemination in Suyo, Ilocos Sur. The gathering aimed to share innovative findings in mushroom cultivation and environmental awareness.
Mr. Thomas Almazan, a local mushroom grower, delivered his opening remarks, emphasizing the importance of research in enhancing agricultural practices. Following him, Dr. Edelyn Cadorna, Director, URDO was represented by Dr. Joseph Taban, he shared insights on the broader implications of research for sustainable agriculture.
Next, Ms. Maritess Raboy, Chief, MRDC, presented two pivotal studies: “Development of Bucarillo with Oyster Mushroom” and “Peanut Plant as an Additive to Oyster Mushroom Substrate.” These studies explore innovative ways to enhance mushroom production and sustainability through alternative substrates.
Dr. Corazon Pardo also discussed her research on “Students’ Understanding on Climate Change,” highlighting the importance of environmental awareness among youth and their practices towards a greener future. This study aims to foster greater environmental responsibility among students and the community.
Lastly, Dr. Dean Alvin Pablico presented on “How Fast Does Quantum Tunneling Happen? Exploring Arrival Times in Physics and its Role in Modern Technologies,” bridging the gap between theoretical physics and practical applications in technology.
Participants expressed enthusiasm about the research outcomes, noting the potential impact on local agriculture and education. The event not only showcased innovative research but also fostered collaboration among researchers, educators, and local growers, paving the way for future advancements in the region’s agricultural practices.
