UNP, PNU strengthen academic partnership through faculty knowledge exchange

The University of Northern Philippines and the Philippine Normal University (PNU) have strengthened their commitment to academic excellence and institutional collaboration through a faculty collaboration activity held on November 4, 2026 at the Hostel Function Hall of UNP.

The engagement formed part of PNU’s Faculty Development Program, “BRIDGE: Building Relationships and Institutional Development through Knowledge Exchange,” a three-day initiative scheduled from November 4 to 6, 2026, in Northern Luzon. The program seeks to promote professional growth, facilitate the exchange of institutional knowledge, and establish meaningful linkages among higher education institutions through collaborative learning and professional engagement.

Welcoming the PNU delegation, Dr. Ma. Teresa Susan Manzano, Dean of the College of Teacher Education (CTE), expressed the university’s appreciation for the opportunity to host the visiting academic community and engage in a meaningful exchange of ideas and experiences. The activity provided an avenue for both institutions to recognize shared priorities in teacher education and identify approaches that can further strengthen their respective academic programs and professional development initiatives.

In his message, UNP President Dr. Erwin Cadorna conveyed his appreciation for PNU’s visit, emphasizing the importance of institutional engagements that encourage knowledge sharing, professional interaction, and the exchange of effective practices among educators. He recognized the value of learning from the experiences of other academic institutions, noting that collaborative initiatives provide opportunities to generate fresh perspectives, enhance institutional capabilities, and advance the quality of higher education.

Dr. Rodrigo Abenes, PNU Faculty Regent, likewise delivered a message during the gathering, highlighting the significance of professional collaboration and institutional engagement in advancing the development of faculty members and strengthening the academic community.

A major component of the activity was the presentation of Dr. Celia Ilanan, Dean of the College of Alternative and Lifelong Learning of PNU, who delivered a lecture titled “Alternative Ways of Repackaging and Innovating Academic and Training Program Offerings.” Her presentation explored the importance of reexamining existing academic and training programs and developing innovative approaches to make educational offerings more responsive to changing learning needs and emerging demands.

The discussion provided valuable perspectives on how higher education institutions can enhance their academic and professional training programs through innovation, flexibility, and responsiveness. It also encouraged participants to consider alternative ways of designing and delivering learning opportunities that accommodate diverse learners, address evolving professional requirements, and expand the reach and relevance of educational services.

Beyond the formal presentations, the gathering served as a platform for faculty members and academic personnel from both universities to exchange teaching strategies, discuss professional experiences, and share institutional practices that could contribute to improved academic delivery. The interaction also reinforced the importance of continuous faculty development, particularly in an educational environment where institutions must remain adaptive, innovative, and responsive to emerging challenges and opportunities.

More importantly, the engagement opened discussions on possible areas of collaboration in instruction, research, and extension, providing both institutions with opportunities to identify common interests and pursue initiatives that can benefit their respective academic communities. Through sustained professional exchanges, UNP and PNU can build on their complementary strengths, share institutional resources and expertise, and develop collaborative undertakings that contribute to educational advancement and community development.

The activity was spearheaded by the Office of the Vice President for Academic Affairs, headed by Dr. Rolando Navarro, through the College of Teacher Education under the leadership of Dean Dr. Ma. Teresa Susan Manzano, in collaboration with the University Information Office led by Dr. Angelica Arquines. The initiative reflected UNP’s sustained commitment to advance faculty and personnel development, provide meaningful platforms for professional knowledge exchange, and cultivate strategic institutional partnerships that open opportunities for academic growth, innovation, and cooperation.

Dr. Leilani Raquepo, CTE Asst. Dean, delivered the closing remarks, bringing the gathering to a close with an affirmation of the value of collaborative engagement and the importance of sustaining the professional connections established during the visit.

The PNU delegation’s visit marked another significant opportunity for UNP to expand its academic networks and reinforce its commitment to institutional cooperation. By bringing together educators and academic leaders in a shared learning environment, the engagement highlighted how meaningful partnerships can translate professional dialogue into concrete opportunities for faculty advancement, academic innovation, and institutional growth.

As both universities continue to pursue their respective mandates in higher education, the BRIDGE initiative provides a valuable foundation for sustained knowledge exchange and future collaborative endeavors—recognizing that the advancement of education is strengthened not only by the capabilities of individual institutions but also by their willingness to learn from one another, share expertise, and work collectively toward a more responsive and progressive academic community.
