𝘜𝘙𝘋𝘖-𝘭𝘦𝘥 𝘤𝘦𝘭𝘦𝘣𝘳𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯 𝘩𝘪𝘨𝘩𝘭𝘪𝘨𝘩𝘵𝘴 𝘢𝘯𝘰𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘳 𝘱𝘳𝘰𝘶𝘥 𝘮𝘪𝘭𝘦𝘴𝘵𝘰𝘯𝘦 𝘪𝘯 𝘜𝘕𝘗’𝘴 𝘥𝘪𝘴𝘵𝘪𝘯𝘨𝘶𝘪𝘴𝘩𝘦𝘥 𝘫𝘰𝘶𝘳𝘯𝘦𝘺 𝘰𝘧 𝘳𝘦𝘴𝘦𝘢𝘳𝘤𝘩 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘪𝘯𝘯𝘰𝘷𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯
The University of Northern Philippines held the 2nd Gawad Saliksik Awards on October 16, 2025, at the UNP Gymnasium as part of its 60th anniversary celebrations. The event was organized by the University Research and Development Office (URDO), headed by Dr. Edelyn A. Cadorna, to recognize individuals who have demonstrated hard work and dedication in their research.
With the theme “Honoring Research Excellence, Celebrating Achievements that Inspire,” the ceremony honored 191 awardees for outstanding work in research publication, industrial design, utility model, citation, and copyright registration. College deans and research unit coordinators were also recognized for their leadership and ongoing support of research initiatives in their colleges and departments.
Plaques and certificates of recognition were presented to the awardees in appreciation of their significant contributions to advancing research at UNP. The remarkable number of honorees affirms the university’s continuing progress in the field, made possible through the consistent guidance and comprehensive support of the URDO from start to finish.
In his message, UNP President Dr. Erwin F. Cadorna compared the university’s growth to that of a diamond formed under pressure.
“𝘜𝘕𝘗 𝘪𝘴 𝘢 𝘥𝘪𝘢𝘮𝘰𝘯𝘥 𝘪𝘯 𝘵𝘸𝘰 𝘸𝘢𝘺𝘴: 𝘪𝘵 𝘩𝘢𝘴 𝘦𝘯𝘥𝘶𝘳𝘦𝘥 𝘱𝘳𝘦𝘴𝘴𝘶𝘳𝘦𝘴—𝘱𝘢𝘯𝘥𝘦𝘮𝘪𝘤, 𝘦𝘢𝘳𝘵𝘩𝘲𝘶𝘢𝘬𝘦, 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘢𝘤𝘤𝘳𝘦𝘥𝘪𝘵𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯—𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘦𝘮𝘦𝘳𝘨𝘦𝘥 𝘴𝘵𝘳𝘰𝘯𝘨𝘦𝘳,” 𝘩𝘦 𝘴𝘢𝘪𝘥.
He also highlighted UNP’s achievement in the World’s Universities with Real Impact (WURI) 2025 Rankings, where it placed first in Region I, third in the Philippines, and third worldwide for Industrial Application.
“𝘖𝘶𝘳 𝘴𝘵𝘶𝘥𝘪𝘦𝘴 𝘢𝘭𝘪𝘨𝘯 𝘸𝘪𝘵𝘩 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘤𝘰𝘶𝘯𝘵𝘳𝘺’𝘴 𝘥𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘭𝘰𝘱𝘮𝘦𝘯𝘵 𝘢𝘨𝘦𝘯𝘥𝘢. 𝘛𝘩𝘪𝘴 𝘪𝘴 𝘩𝘰𝘯𝘰𝘳𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘳𝘦𝘴𝘦𝘢𝘳𝘤𝘩 𝘦𝘹𝘤𝘦𝘭𝘭𝘦𝘯𝘤𝘦 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘳𝘦𝘭𝘦𝘷𝘢𝘯𝘤𝘦,” 𝘩𝘦 𝘢𝘥𝘥𝘦𝘥.
Dr. Pio Ferdinand J. Lamarca, former Vice President for Finance and Administration and the event’s Guest of Honor, encouraged everyone to keep their passion for discovery alive.
“𝘞𝘦 𝘤𝘦𝘭𝘦𝘣𝘳𝘢𝘵𝘦 𝘢𝘤𝘩𝘪𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘮𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘴 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘪𝘯𝘴𝘱𝘪𝘳𝘦. 𝘙𝘦𝘴𝘦𝘢𝘳𝘤𝘩 𝘪𝘴 𝘢𝘣𝘰𝘶𝘵 𝘮𝘢𝘬𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘢 𝘥𝘪𝘧𝘧𝘦𝘳𝘦𝘯𝘤𝘦 𝘪𝘯 𝘱𝘦𝘰𝘱𝘭𝘦’𝘴 𝘭𝘪𝘷𝘦𝘴,” 𝘩𝘦 𝘴𝘢𝘪𝘥.
Speaking on behalf of the awardees, Dr. Dolores R. Bersamina shared how research has helped improve their lives, families, and communities.
“𝘙𝘦𝘴𝘦𝘢𝘳𝘤𝘩 𝘪𝘮𝘱𝘳𝘰𝘷𝘦𝘴 𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘤𝘩𝘢𝘯𝘤𝘦𝘴 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘨𝘳𝘰𝘸𝘵𝘩 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘸𝘢𝘺 𝘸𝘦 𝘤𝘢𝘳𝘦 𝘧𝘰𝘳 our 𝘧𝘢𝘮𝘪𝘭𝘪𝘦𝘴 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘴𝘦𝘳𝘷𝘦 𝘤𝘰𝘮𝘮𝘶𝘯𝘪𝘵𝘪𝘦𝘴. 𝘌𝘢𝘤𝘩 𝘴𝘵𝘶𝘥𝘺 𝘪𝘴 𝘢 𝘴𝘵𝘦𝘱 𝘵𝘰𝘸𝘢𝘳𝘥 𝘢 𝘤𝘰𝘮𝘱𝘢𝘴𝘴𝘪𝘰𝘯𝘢𝘵𝘦, 𝘱𝘳𝘰𝘨𝘳𝘦𝘴𝘴𝘪𝘷𝘦 𝘴𝘰𝘤𝘪𝘦𝘵𝘺.”
In her closing message, Dr. Edelyn A. Cadorna expressed pride and gratitude to the researchers for their continued effort and excellence.

The 2nd Gawad Saliksik, led by the URDO, highlights UNP’s commitment to research and innovation. With 191 awardees and the leaders who guide them, the university demonstrates its mission to create impactful knowledge for a better future.
