Graduate students sharpen thesis-writing skills in CTE Research Bootcamp

Advancing research excellence and academic competence, the College of Teacher Education (CTE) of the University of Northern Philippines equipped graduate students and faculty members with essential thesis-writing skills through the Thesis Writing Capability Enhancement Seminar cum Graduate Thesis Writing Bootcamp on October 17, 2026 at the CTE Academic Building.

Guided by the theme, “Strengthening research competence for rigorous, relevant, and research-informed teaching and educational management,” the activity gathered graduate students from the Master of Arts in Education (MAEd) and Master of Arts in Teaching English (MAT-Eng) programs for an intensive learning session focused on enhancing their thesis-writing skills, deepening their understanding of educational research, and developing their capacity to produce rigorous, relevant, and evidence-based academic studies.

The program commenced with welcome remarks from Dr. Ma. Teresa Susan Manzano, Dean of the College of Teacher Education, who welcomed the participants and highlighted the significance of strengthening research competencies in advancing academic excellence. This was followed by an inspirational message from Dr. Rolando Navarro, Vice President for Academic Affairs, who emphasized the value of research in enriching teaching practices, improving educational management, and promoting evidence-based approaches to address challenges in the education sector.

The seminar featured comprehensive discussions on essential components of educational research, providing participants with practical guidance on developing well-structured, methodologically sound, and relevant theses. Dr. Luzviminda Relon, Director for Instruction and Faculty Development, discussed the fundamentals of establishing a strong foundation for educational management research, emphasizing the importance of identifying research problems and aligning them with the needs and challenges of educational institutions. Dr. Eleanor Belizar, Special Assistant to the President, meanwhile, explored theoretical frameworks and theorization, highlighting the role of appropriate theories in shaping research directions, establishing conceptual clarity, and strengthening the scholarly basis of a study.

Complementing these sessions, Dr. Jamaica Garcia guided participants through the processes of research data analysis and interpretation, focusing on extracting meaningful insights from findings, synthesizing evidence, and formulating sound, evidence-based conclusions and recommendations. Collectively, the discussions equipped participants with essential knowledge and practical approaches to thesis development, enabling them to produce credible, rigorous, and context-responsive research that can contribute to improved teaching practices and more effective educational management.

The seminar culminated in the closing remarks of Dr. Rainalda Rambuyon, Head of the MAEd program, followed by the awarding of certificates to participants in recognition of their engagement in the research capability-building activity.

Through this initiative, the College of Teacher Education reaffirmed its commitment to advance educational excellence by equipping graduate students and faculty members with essential research skills, encourage continuous professional growth, and promote the application of evidence-based knowledge in teaching and educational management. The activity also highlighted the college’s continuing efforts to develop competent researchers capable of producing relevant, credible, and practical studies that address emerging challenges in the education sector.
