UNP-CTE graduate Gampayon earns inaugural TEC Pre-service Teacher Research Champion Award

           A University of Northern Philippines–College of Teacher Education graduate became the inaugural recipient of the Pre-service Teacher Research Champion Award at the TEC Teachers Awards 2026, held September 30 at The Manila Hotel as part of the National Teachers’ Month 2026 Celebration.

            The Teacher Education Council (TEC) recognized Alvin Lloyd Gampayon, a Bachelor of Secondary Education major in Science graduate, for his exemplary contributions, steadfast commitment, and dedication to advancing the teaching profession and promoting excellence in teacher education.

            The recognition marked the inaugural conferment of the Pre-service Teacher Research Champion Award by TEC, with Gampayon earning the distinction for his accomplishments as a pre-service teacher-researcher. His award-winning work includes the study “SpectraUNO: Development of a Card Game in Physics to Improve Students’ Engagement,” undertaken under the guidance of his research adviser, Ms. Melody Marquez. Accompanied by Marquez at the national celebration, Gampayon’s achievement emphasized a significant milestone in his development as a future educator and researcher.

The national celebration gathered education leaders, teacher educators, teachers, and distinguished guests to honor excellence and contributions to the teaching profession. Among those in attendance were President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., Department of Education Secretary Sonny Angara, and Commission on Higher Education Chairperson Dr. Shirley Agrupis.

The Pre-service Teacher Research Champion Award recognizes the contributions of aspiring educators to research and teacher education while emphasizing the vital role of research in equipping future teachers with knowledge, innovation, and evidence-based practices.

Gampayon’s recognition brings distinction to the University of Northern Philippines under the leadership of University President Dr. Erwin Cadorna, particularly the College of Teacher Education headed by Dean Dr. Ma. Teresa Susan Manzano. His achievement reflects UNP-CTE’s continuing commitment in developing future educators who are research-oriented, innovative, and dedicated to professional excellence.

The UNP community congratulates Alvin Lloyd Gampayon on receiving the inaugural TEC Pre-service Teacher Research Champion Award and commends Ms. Melody Marquez, for her invaluable guidance and mentorship as his research adviser.
