Bringing faculty and non-teaching personnel together in a celebration of unity and shared purpose, the Faculty Union (FU) and the Non-teaching Employees Union (NEU) of the University of Northern Philippines (UNP) marked the University’s 61st Founding Anniversary with a joint gathering on October 13, 2026, at the UNP Gymnasium, highlighting employee wellness, workplace camaraderie, and dedicated service to the University community.
In his message, UNP President Dr. Erwin Cadorna emphasized the importance of employee-centered activities in cultivating a healthy, positive, and productive workplace. He recognized that the well-being of university personnel is integral in maintaining a motivated workforce and sustaining the quality of service delivered to the academic community. He also commended the FU and the NEU for their collaborative efforts in advancing employee welfare, noting the value of unity and cooperation in building a supportive work environment where both teaching and non-teaching personnel can thrive and contribute meaningfully to the University’s continued growth.
The celebration featured a series of activities that promoted physical wellness, environmental responsibility, recreation, and fellowship among university personnel. Participants kicked off the day with a fun walk-cum-cleanup drive, combining physical activity with a collective effort to keep the surroundings clean, followed by a lively Zumba session that encouraged active and healthy living. They also enjoyed a raffle draw and took advantage of complimentary self-care services, including haircuts and massages, providing them with opportunities to relax and recharge amid their professional responsibilities.
Adding excitement to the celebration was the much-anticipated FU–NEU Basketball Friendship Game, which brought faculty and non-teaching personnel together on the court in a spirit of friendly competition. Beyond the thrill of the game, the sporting event provided a venue for participants to demonstrate sportsmanship, nurture camaraderie, and strengthen unity in the University workforce, reinforcing the value of teamwork and mutual respect in building a more cohesive UNP community.
Highlighting the importance of employee well-being in sustaining workplace productivity and quality instruction, Faculty Union (FU) President Dr. Marlou Savella emphasized the need to give university personnel time to rest, recharge, and feel supported in their professional roles. She noted that a well-rested and valued workforce is better equipped to fulfill its responsibilities and effectively share knowledge, particularly in teaching and learning. Also gracing the event were Mr. Albert Tejero, Vice President for Administration and Finance; Dr. Rolando Navarro, Vice President for Academic Affairs; Dr. Fatima Rocamora, Vice President for Research and Extension; and Hon. Nestor Pajaro, Federated Alumni Association President.
The Non-teaching Employees Union Basketball Team clinched victory in the FU–NEU Basketball Friendship Game, capping the celebration with a showcase of teamwork, sportsmanship, and university spirit.
In his closing remarks, NEU President Atty. Gerwin Rabang expressed gratitude for the joint gathering, emphasizing the value of taking a break from work to relax, recharge, and connect with fellow employees. “It’s a good day to have a break from work. I hope you enjoyed the day,” he said.
