Three Junior High School swimmers from the University of Northern Philippines–Laboratory Schools (UNP-LS) delivered a dominant performance at the Champions Cup Interscholastic Edition, bringing home an impressive haul of 21 medals during the two-day competition held on September 26–27, 2026 at the New Clark City Aquatics Center.
Leading UNP-LS’s medal haul was Markish Douah Quicio, who emerged as the meet’s standout performer with 10 gold and two silver medals, highlighted by three record-setting swims. Quicio rewrote the meet records in the 200-meter butterfly (2:30.20), 400-meter individual medley (5:30.82), and 200-meter individual medley (2:38.95), topping the field in all three events.
She further dominated the 100-meter and 50-meter butterfly, 200-meter freestyle, 200-meter and 100-meter backstroke, 100-meter breaststroke, and 100-meter freestyle, while adding silver medals in the 400-meter freestyle and 50-meter backstroke.
Her exceptional performance earned Quicio the Most Outstanding Swimmer award in the Girls 13-year-old category, capping a record-setting campaign at the competition.
Adding to UNP-LS’s impressive medal haul, Briana Lopez powered to seven podium finishes, highlighted by a record-setting performance in the 100-meter breaststroke, where she clocked 1:28.10 to claim gold. She also topped the 50-meter breaststroke, while securing silver medals in the 200-meter breaststroke and 200-meter backstroke and bronze medals in the 100-meter backstroke, 50-meter backstroke, and 200-meter individual medley.
Meanwhile, Aldrich Miguel Tolentino strengthened the team’s campaign with bronze finishes in the 200-meter and 100-meter backstroke events.
Overall, the UNP-LS delegation amassed 12 gold, four silver, and five bronze medals, including four record-breaking performances, to close the Champions Cup Interscholastic Edition with an impressive 21-medal haul.
Their strong performances also earned Quicio, Lopez, and Tolentino qualification for the upcoming Batang Pinoy, extending their competitive campaign to the national youth sports stage.
