The University of Northern Philippines Department of Mathematics and Natural Sciences showcased the dynamic and far-reaching role of science beyond the traditional classroom as it culminated Science Month 2026 with “FLOW FEST 2026,” a series of multidisciplinary activities that engaged students in scientific inquiry, discovery, collaboration, and innovation.
Anchored on the theme “FLOW FEST 2026: Focusing minds, transforming wastes, celebrating culture, and foreseeing futures,” the celebration brought together students from various academic programs in a range of competitions designed to promote environmental stewardship, sharpen critical thinking, showcase artistic expression, and encourage innovative approaches to sustainable design.
The series of highlight events began with the Search for the Science Quizzard on September 21, 2026 at the UNP Hostel Function Hall, where participants faced a rigorous test of their knowledge and skills in biology, chemistry, physics, and earth science. The competition challenged contestants to demonstrate quick thinking, logical reasoning, problem-solving skills, and analytical depth. Raydann Rubia, a BS Education Science III student, emerged as champion, followed by Margaux Hermione Agatep of BS Psychology 3B in second place and Justin Caballero of BS Civil Engineering I-E in third place.
Through “FlowLens: Capturing change, culture, and tomorrow,” participants harnessed photography and visual storytelling to portray environmental realities, cultural identity, and visions for the future within their communities. Students from the College of Engineering’s BS Civil Engineering program dominated the competition, with Jan Bryce Galicia clinching first place, Yara Shane Dela Rosa earning second, and Christian Dave Gajes securing third.
The month-long celebration reached its finale on September 22, 2026 at the UNP Auditorium with “Flow in Motion 2026,” an eco-fashion show that brought the theme’s “Transforming wastes” advocacy to the runway. Participants transformed discarded and recyclable materials into innovative wearable creations, demonstrating how resourcefulness, creativity, and sustainable design can promote greater awareness of waste reduction.
The runway spectacle also marked the recognition of the official FLOW FEST 2026 titleholders. Chloe Beyonce Pabo of BS Nursing 1C was named Flow Fest Icon 2026, while Jeremy Santamaria of BS Psychology 3A earned the title Flow Fest Trendsetter 2026 and was also recognized for Best in Creative Design. Chrisleen Monique Bartolome of BSN 1D, meanwhile, was hailed as the Flow Fest Rising Star 2026 for her promising performance.
The successful staging of FLOW FEST 2026 was made possible through the collective efforts of faculty members, staff, organizers, and students. More than a celebration of science and creativity, the event emphasized the value of bringing scientific thinking and creative expression together—turning waste into opportunities for innovation and inspiring ideas that contribute to a more sustainable future.
