Abstract:Extension as one of the core functions of state universities and colleges in the country aimed to support communities who needs help and to sustain linkages locally and internationally. This study aimed to assess the needs and problems of the residents of Bantay, an adopted municipality of the university. This study utilized the quantitative method of research coupled with one-to-one interview with the barangay captains and focus group discussions with the residents. The needs assessment form from the University Extension Office and an interview guide were used to collect the data needed in the study. Ethical considerations were observed throughout the conduct of the study. Frequency counts and percentages, and ranking were used to treat the gathered data. The results of the study show that most of the residents are farming lands which they do not own. It was found out that the residents wanted trainings on livelihood programs such as silk screen processing and t-shirt printing, and cosmetology. Moreover, it was identified that the main problems in the community are unemployment and malnutrition. Thus, a community development plan was proposed to address the needs and problems in the community.
Abstract:This study aimed to assess the needs of the stakeholders in Lao-ingen Elementary School of Sto. Domingo, Ilocos Sur. Based on the findings of the study, all the three groups of respondents need trainings on technology transfer for parents; research capability, teaching methodologies and instructional materials development for teachers; numeracy and other mathematics-related activities for the pupils. Willingness to support on the possible activities was shown by the respondents which is to be implemented by the researchers. As consequence of the Needs Assessment Survey, the researchers crafted a proposed 3-Year Development Plan. In the light of the findings and conclusions, it is recommended that an immediate response should be done by the implementing entities to cater the needs of the beneficiaries

Abstract:Learning resources are crucial to boosting students' academic performance. This study aimed to develop and validate a worktext for Mathematics in the Modern World (MMW). Specifically, it sought to determine the availability and adequacy of instructional materials in the said mathematics course; describe the components of the worktext; evaluate the worktext in terms of objectives, content, format, organization, language, and usability; and determine the readability of the worktext. Findings showed a need to develop a worktext in MMW to address the inadequacy of teaching and learning resources in MMW in the university. The worktext in MMW is simple yet rich in content and contains varied activities. It is highly valid and can be used as instructional material in the teaching and learning of MMW. The contents of the worktext are written so that it is clear to the target readers can read it. Keywords: Worktext Development, Learning Material, Validation, Mathematics in the Modern World
Abstract:The development of instructional materials is seen as a vital educational goal for addressing the needs of all students and ensuring quality education. As educational paradigms evolve, there is a growing emphasis on creating resources that engage, empower, and cater to the individualized learning of students. The study endeavored to develop and evaluate Modules in Precalculus for Grade 11 STEM students. The study employed the research and development (R&D) design and descriptive research method, utilizing the evaluation rating sheet for print resources adopted from the Department of Education. The passed-not passed method was used to determine the extent of validity of the developed modules. Five experts in the field of mathematics and language evaluated the learning material, and the data were analyzed using frequency count, mean, and summation. The newly developed learning material in Precalculus wraps up eleven (11) modules. The presentation of the topics embraces the 5E instructional model in achieving the targeted learning outcomes grounded on the Most Essential Learning Competencies (MELCs). As a result, the Modules in Precalculus for Grade 11 STEM students exhibited remarkable substance and met the standards and requirements of the evaluation process. The developed modules augment the existing learning resources used for teaching the subject in Senior High School.
