BSCM, CMSO highlight Cooperativism Building Seminar

To equip students with necessary skills related to collaboration, leadership, and community building, the University of Northern Philippines (UNP) Bachelor of Science in Cooperative Management (BSCM) program with the Cooperative Management Student Organization (CMSO) of the College of Business Administration and Accountancy (CBAA), organized a hybrid seminar on building cooperativism entitled, “Strengthening Unity: Nurturing Cooperativism Among Future Leaders” on March 24, at Tadena Hall.

The activity, aimed at developing BSCM students’ knowledge of cooperative principles, values, and practices, featured a unique setup: an online speaker interacting live with the participants. This hybrid mode provided more room for exchange of ideas and perspectives.

Discussions from the resource speaker Dr. Divina Quemi revolved around the central role of cooperatives in economic and social development, providing hands-on strategies for building collaboration and using cooperative principles in practical situations.

The seminar was also attended by Dr. Melvin Laureta, BSCM Program Head, and Dr. Eileen Rose Paculan, who both underscored the need for cooperativism in today’s world and the timeliness of the seminar in empowering future leaders.

“We are proud to have facilitated this seminar,” said a representative from the CMSO. “We believe that the knowledge and skills gained will empower our fellow students to become future leaders in the cooperative movement.”

This activity trained the students ton becoming the next generation of cooperative leaders capable of making meaningful changes in their communities.
