DSSP, CGAD lead Women’s Month celebration with speech choir contest
The Department of Social Sciences and Philosophy (DSSP) and the Center for Gender and Development (CGAD) spearheaded a Women’s Month activity at the University of Northern Philippines (UNP) Guestel on March 24, 2025. The event carried the theme “We for Gender Equality and Inclusive Society: Babae sa Lahat ng Sektor, Aangat ang Bukas sa Bagong Pilipinas.” A speech choir contest highlighted the event, serving as a powerful medium to express the multifaceted roles of women.
Dr. Remedios Navarro delivered an inspirational message, encouraging all to champion women’s rights and empowerment in all sectors of society. Dr. Chase Mark Suyat, DSSP Department Head, set the stage for an afternoon dedicated to recognizing women’s contributions and advocating for gender equality. Mrs. Jenalyn Ragudo presented the contest guidelines, while Ms. Miaflor Tabangcura introduced the board of judges for the speech choir contest.
BS Criminology 1A students emerged as the first-place winner in the speech choir contest, BS Criminology 1E in second place, and BS Civil Engineering 2A in third place. The celebration concluded remarks of Atty. Katrynn Louise Eder, reinforcing the commitment to continue fostering a gender-inclusive environment.
