UNP claims twin ASEAN runner-up honors at Timpuyog ti Amianan 2026

Delegates from the University of Northern Philippines emerged among the top performers at Timpuyog ti Amianan 2026, earning major honors in the regional showcase held on October 5–6 at the University.

The contenders were carefully selected from among competitive entries submitted by various state universities and colleges in Region 1, bringing together participants who demonstrated notable accomplishments, skills, and experiences in the regional competition.

Ms. Mona Briones, Administrative Officer IV of UNP, secured First Runner-Up in the Non-Teaching Category of the ASEAN Mobility Experience Challenge, held at the UNP Tadena Hall, where she shared insights and key takeaways from her participation in the International Staff Mobility Program at Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember in Indonesia.

Ms. Briones presented her international mobility experience, highlighting the knowledge, skills, and professional perspectives she gained during the program. She also outlined her dissemination plans for sharing and applying these learnings within the University, demonstrating how international exposure can contribute to professional development and support institutional initiatives.

Her recognition reflected the value of UNP’s participation in ASEAN mobility programs, which provide faculty and non-teaching personnel with opportunities to gain cross-cultural perspectives, exchange best practices, and bring relevant international experiences back to the University community.

Joining Ms. Briones among UNP’s awardees, the Danggay-Saririt Cultural Dance Troupe captured First Runner-Up honors in the ASEAN Cultural Dance Competition held at the UNP Gymnasium, delivering a vibrant performance that celebrated cultural diversity and the rich artistic traditions of the ASEAN region.

The award-winning presentation featured dancers Reimar Martinez, Jyro Bien Quinola, Crisanto Ola, Dexter James Reyes, John Bernard Amano, Shancarlo Cortez, Alexis John Verazon, Patricia Benzon, Jewel Reotutar, Queenie Sagucio, Anamy Atanbelo, Kazhandra Dulay, Samantha Norren Damian, and Maryjoy Padron, whose synchronized movements, expressive choreography, and cultural artistry brought the ASEAN spirit to life on stage.

UNP’s strong showing in the two-day regional event was further marked by Laboratory Schools instructor Ms. Melody Marquez, who emerged as a finalist in the faculty category of the ASEAN mobility experience challenge. Ms. Marquez presented the knowledge and insights she gained from the international short course on promoting relevant education in Science for sustainability at Universitas Negeri Malang, Indonesia, highlighting how her international learning experience could be translated into relevant educational practices at the University.

Both UNP mobility challenge representatives were mentored by Dr. Winnie Caliboso, whose guidance supported their presentations throughout the competition. Meanwhile, the Danggay-Saririt Cultural Dance Troupe underwent training under the direction of Mr. Mark Christian Palo of the Department of Physical Education, contributing to the troupe’s strong performance in the ASEAN cultural dance competition.

Together, the achievements reflected UNP’s continuing efforts to expand international learning opportunities, share global best practices, and showcase the University’s cultural and academic capabilities in regional platforms.
