The University of Northern Philippines, through its University Extension Office (UEO) and Master of Arts in Teaching Livelihood Education (MATLE-HE) Program, conducted a Chicken Pastel Making skills training for Persons Deprived of Liberty (PDLs) at the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) in Ayusan Sur, Vigan City, Ilocos Sur, on October 26, 2026, as part of the 2026 National Correctional Consciousness Week.
Anchored on the theme “Makabagong Paglilingkod, Makabuluhang Rehabilitasyon: Chicken Pastel Making,” the activity aimed to equip PDLs with practical culinary and food processing skills that could support their personal development and provide potential livelihood opportunities after their release.
Dr. Roselyn Alan served as trainer, while Dr. Jeanina Batin, UEO Coordinator, helped oversee the activity. MATLE-HE students Alyssa Tamba, Charlene Raguini, and Jessanine Yadao served as facilitators, assisting participants during the hands-on training. BJMP personnel also participated in the activity.
The initiative aligns with Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 4 (Quality Education) through practical skills training; SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth) through livelihood skills development; SDG 10 (Reduced Inequalities) through inclusive learning opportunities; and SDG 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production) through proper food handling and efficient use of ingredients.
