Earning two major distinctions from the Cooperative Development Authority (CDA) Region I, the University of Northern Philippines strengthened its standing as a champion of cooperative development and community empowerment during the annual RANIAG Awards ceremony held on October 16, 2026 at the Stella Maris Hotel in Cabugao, Ilocos Sur.
The University, through the Bachelor of Science in Cooperative Management (BSCM) program, earned the Partner in Cooperative Development Award and the prestigious Seal of Partnership in recognition of its significant contributions to cooperative advancement. These distinctions highlight the University’s initiatives in collaborative research, trainer education, and student internship programs, as well as its sustained efforts to advance regional socioeconomic development.
Following the recognition, a delegation from the University, led by College of Business Administration and Accountancy Dean Dr. Erwin Tolbe, paid a courtesy visit to UNP President Dr. Erwin Cadorna to present the achievement. The delegation included Assistant Dean Dr. Gilbert Valdez, BSCM Program Head Dr. Melvin Laureta, and core faculty members Dr. Shareen Navarro and Mr. Michael Agustin. The visit also highlighted the college’s continuing commitment to strengthen institutional partnerships and advance cooperative education and development.
Held as part of the region’s observance of National Cooperative Month, the RANIAG Awards celebrate institutions and organizations that advance inclusive growth, community development, and cross-sector collaboration. The awards, formally known as Recognition of Achievements in Nation-Building, Inter-Agency Alliances and Good Governance, honor exemplary performance in governance, innovation, leadership, and partnership-building.
In the citations signed by CDA Region I Regional Director Atty. Frederick Joe Robles, UNP’s productive partnership with the cooperative sector was recognized for its hands-on student internship programs, collaborative research initiatives, and sustained institutional support.
These distinctions further strengthen UNP’s role as an academic and development partner in Northern Luzon, highlighting its commitment to transform academic expertise into tangible community benefits through cooperative education, research, and sustained collaboration with government agencies and other stakeholders.
