A dream nurtured in Manueva, Santa, Ilocos Sur has taken Josian Vince Bajet Bermio all the way to the national stage. With a stellar 90.60% rating, Bermio secured ninth place in the August–September 2026 Nurse Licensure Examination, earning a spot among the country’s top 10 and adding another remarkable achievement to the growing legacy of the University of Northern Philippines. Yet beyond the distinction is a story rooted in family influence, a genuine fascination with nursing, and a quiet confidence that guided him through months of preparation—proving that when purpose meets perseverance, a once-held dream can rise to extraordinary heights. Bermio, who has always been diligent in his studies also graduated as cum laude at UNP.
For Josian Vince Bajet Bermio, nursing was a calling that took root long before the licensure examination. Influenced by his mother and uncle, both nursing graduates, he grew familiar with the profession and was captivated by the image of the “neat-looking white lab coat,” often imagining himself caring for patients in hospital corridors. Even as a child, caring for sick pets gave him a deep sense of fulfillment in being present for those in moments of vulnerability—a feeling that eventually guided him toward nursing.
Bermio carried the same quiet consistency into his preparation for the Nurse Licensure Examination. Reading became a lifelong habit from the moment he chose nursing, while his formal review was guided not by a rigid routine but by self-awareness—knowing when to push forward and when to rest. He credits his achievement to God’s “nonstop guidance,” the unwavering support of his parents, Dr. Joussie Bermio and Mr. Melvin Bermio, his friends and girlfriend, and the University of Northern Philippines under President Dr. Erwin Cadorna and the College of Nursing led by Dean Francis Don Nero.
As a proud UNP Laboratory High School alumnus, Bermio carries the LSian values of rigor, service, and school pride into his nursing journey. For him, the profession was not merely a career he chose; it was a calling shaped by years of caring and a growing desire to serve. To fellow UNP students, he leaves a simple but powerful reminder: “Aim high, listen to yourself, and trust yourself—because at the end of the day, your number one supporter should be you.”
