UNP-CCIT harnesses IT tools for accurate, transparent student grading

Promoting accuracy, efficiency, and accountability in academic records management, the University of Northern Philippines College of Communication and Information Technology (UNP-CCIT) conducted a whole-day faculty development activity titled “eGrade Essentials: Efficient Computation and Management of Student Grades Using IT Tools” on October 8, 2026 at the CCIT Laboratory.

The activity brought together CCIT administration, program heads, and faculty in a collaborative learning environment focused on improving the way student grades are computed, documented, managed, and submitted.

The morning sessions featured “Grades Management 101,” facilitated by Asst. Prof. Rosanne Agup, CCIT Dean, and “Computation and Transmutation,” delivered by Dr. Maribel Tacla, CCIT Assistant Dean. The discussions highlighted the importance of proper documentation, accurate grade computation, appropriate application of transmutation schemes, and strict adherence to institutional policies and procedures to ensure the integrity and reliability of academic records.

A major highlight of the activity was the afternoon workshop on grade computation, during which each academic program head presented the grading templates and transmutation schemes to be adopted by faculty members in their respective programs. The workshop enabled participants to examine the different grading practices across programs, clarify computation procedures, and promote greater consistency, accuracy, and transparency in grade management.

The discussions also emphasized that grade computation extends beyond mathematical procedures, as it carries a significant academic responsibility that directly affects students’ academic standing and progress. Faculty members were reminded to ensure that grades accurately reflect students’ actual performance and are based on properly assessed academic outputs.

To further improve efficiency, participants also explored the use of information technology tools in organizing academic records, streamlining grade computation, minimizing errors, and acilitating the systematic management of student grades.

The University emphasized that timely grade submission goes beyond compliance with institutional deadlines, reflecting faculty members’ accountability for maintaining reliable academic records and ensuring the smooth processing of students’ enrollment requirements, clearances, academic evaluations, and other essential university transactions.

As CCIT continues to improve its academic systems through technology-driven solutions, the seminar-workshop reinforced the need for accuracy, transparency, and timeliness in grade management. It affirmed the principle that every grade must accurately reflect student performance, every academic output must be properly accounted for, and every grade submission must meet prescribed deadlines to uphold fairness, protect the integrity of academic records, and ensure that every student receives a reliable and trustworthy assessment of academic achievement.
