UNP orator reigns supreme for second straight year in Statistics Month contest

A student from the University of Northern Philippines College of Teacher Education (UNP-CTE) emerged as champion in the Stat Speaks Oratorical Contest during the 37th National Statistics Month celebration held on October 8, 2026 at the Audio-Visual Room of Ilocos Sur Community College in Bantay, Ilocos Sur.

Ralph Cedrick Alviedo reaffirmed his oratorical prowess by capturing the championship for the second consecutive year in the Stat Speaks Oratorical Contest, securing a remarkable back-to-back victory against contenders from various educational institutions.

Through a persuasive and insightful delivery, Alviedo emphasized the indispensable role of statistics in shaping inclusive, resilient, and sustainable tourism. His oration highlighted how reliable statistical data can guide evidence-based decisions, improve tourism planning, identify community needs, and develop strategies that balance economic opportunities with environmental protection and social inclusion. By demonstrating the practical value of statistics in addressing tourism-related challenges and advancing sustainable development, Alviedo distinguished himself as the competition’s top speaker, successfully defending his title and bringing distinction to the University.

This year’s celebration carried the theme, “TUKLAS PILIPINAS: Statistics as Beacon Towards Inclusive, Resilient, and Sustainable Tourism,” highlighting the importance of statistics in shaping a tourism industry that is inclusive, adaptable to emerging challenges, and environmentally sustainable.

Alviedo’s winning performance was guided by Dr. Novie Ada Urbis of the College of Arts and Sciences–Department of Languages and Humanities.
