CHS brings health services to Manueva
On November 22, 2024, the College of Health Sciences (CHS), under the leadership of the Dean, Dr. Joussa Bajet-Bermio, conducted a series of extension activities aimed at strengthening the health and well-being of the residents of Manueva, Santa.
The activity was a collaborative effort of the CHS with the Philippine Nurses Association (PNA), Rotary Club (RC), Ilocos Sur Medical Society, and Naval and Military Lodge of the United Kingdom.
Through the active participation of local leaders led by Barangay Captain Manuel A. Bajet Jr. and residents, the three activities were successfully implemented.
The community-based disaster risk reduction training and medicine distribution was specifically designed for barangay officials, barangay tanods, barangay health workers, and the barangay nutritionist to equip them with knowledge on disaster preparedness and response.
In addition, a medicine distribution drive was held to ensure that the community had access to essential healthcare supplies.
The second one focused on personal hygiene and grooming for day care children plus a training for parents on managing common illnesses. In addition, they were given hygiene kits. The training session for parents taught them how to utilize local plants to manage common illnesses, empowering them with practical and cost-effective solutions for family health care.
Lastly, the research dissemination featured the sharing of CHS faculty members of the results of their recent health and social science research projects. They shared insights into issues affecting the community and suggested sustainable solutions based on evidence-based findings.
“These activities were a testament to the commitment of the CHS to community engagement and empowering individuals with the knowledge and resources they need for a healthier, more resilient future,” Dean Bermio said.
