BSEHS students advance to emergency medical care through EMT skills training

Showcasing their skill and determination, the fourth-year students of the Bachelor of Science in Emergency Health Services (BSEHS) of the College of Health Sciences successfully completed their intensive Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) training.

This pivotal event, originally scheduled earlier, was delayed due to three consecutive typhoons that led to class suspensions. However, the students’ resilience and commitment to learning proved that no storm could halt their pursuit of excellence.

The training ultimately unfolded on October 23-29 and November 4-9, 2024 at the UNP Guestel Hall, involving rigorous exercises that spanned a range of emergency medical scenarios.

The training initiative was organized by Assoc. Prof. Maria Yolanda R. Aquino, the BSEHS program head.

Dr. Joussie B. Bermio, the dean of CHS, underscored the importance of practical training in the pursuit of medical excellence. She encouraged the students to approach the training with dedication and commitment, emphasizing that their role as future emergency responders is critical to saving lives.

Throughout the training, students were under the expert guidance of Mr. Alexander P. Villalon, executive director of START EMS Rescue Solutions Corp. Together with an accomplished team of instructors and facilitators from the BSEHS faculty, they led participants through a comprehensive set of skills essential to emergency response.

As the event culminated, Assoc. Prof. Leila Sylvia F. Bautista, the RLE coordinator, delivered the closing remarks, commending the students for their resilience and determination throughout the training.

She emphasized how the knowledge and skills gained during this training are not only essential for their NC II accreditation but are also pivotal in their journey toward becoming professional emergency responders. These competencies represent a significant step in the BSEHS step-ladder program, preparing them for their vital roles in saving lives.

This intensive training has reinforced the program’s commitment to nurturing skilled and compassionate emergency health professionals. The experience highlighted the importance of being prepared, adaptable, and committed – qualities that are essential in the critical field of emergency care.
