BSEd faculty share research, upcoming services to Puro NHS teachers
The faculty members of the Bachelor of Secondary Education (BSEd) program of the College of Teacher Education shared their finished research and upcoming services to the teachers of Puro National High School in Magsingal, Ilocos Sur on March 6.
The initiative aimed to “integrate research-based practices into teaching methodologies to enhance classroom instruction, provide a collaborative space for faculty members to share and discuss their scholarly work, highlight significant themes in literature, gender studies, language, and educational innovations, inspire reflective practice and evidence-based teaching strategies, and align research dissemination with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).”
Dr. Maria Theresa Forneas, program head, organized the event with the support of Dean Ma. Teresa Susan Manzano.
The event showcased research studies, including “Emerging Themes in the Published Poems of Ilokano Women Writers” (Dr. Juvie Lyn Almachar) which explored the voices and cultural expressions of Ilokano female poets, as well as “Ekokritisismong Pagsusuri sa mga Piling Maikling Kwentong Ilokano” (Dr. Novelyn Barcena and Dr. Nancy Ubilas), an ecocritical reading of selected Ilokano short stories that reflect environmental consciousness.
Gender issues and employment dynamics took center stage in “Do I Have to Hire Female Drivers, Too? A PUV Operator Asks” (Dr. Jose Pichay), which examined gender biases in the transportation sector. Also, “Scaling the Ili: Folklore as Archive in Prescillano Bermudez’s Dagiti Pundador” (Mr. Mark Louie Tabunan) highlighted the role of folklore in preserving cultural identity.
Additionally, “Development of a Worktext in Ethics” (Atty. Aaron Noel Taloza) contributed to the discussion on values education and instructional materials development.
Additionally, Dr. Jamaica Garcia and Dr. Mark Angelo Reotutar shared the upcoming services of faculty for the Puro NHS teachers and students. These include training on instructional materials development and action research and a mathematics tutorial to be delivered by the BSEd and MA Mathematics Education faculty and students.
