To continuously champion the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) set by the United Nations (UN) among communities, the University of Northern Philippines through the College of Business Administration and Accountancy (CBAA) along with Barangay Bannuar, San Juan, Ilocos Sur, signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) on April 4, 2025, at the Barangay Bannuar Hall. This partnership aims to provide the community with economic, social, environmental, financial, and management solutions.
The signing ceremony commenced with Mr. John Wilbert Madriaga introducing the CBAA faculty and thereafter launched the B.A.N.N.U.A.R. (Bumarangay Agtitinnulong para ti Nasaysayaat ken Naprogreso nga komunidad Umado ti Agnenosyo para ti panag Rang ay) project. This was followed by Dr. Eileen Rose Paculan, who thoroughly explained the rationale behind the MOA signing. Barangay Chairman Hon. Joel Aquino expressed his support for the agreement and gratefully signed it along with the barangay councilors.
Dr. Erwin Tolbe, Dean of CBAA, remarked that UNP is committed to community growth and is always open to providing solutions to community challenges. Hon. Aquino, in turn, expressed deep gratitude to the CBAA for their extended services. The signing was followed by a seminar on building competent community leaders, delivered by Mr. Ryan Fogata and Mr. Romeo Arce, both faculty members.
The activity was primarily organized by Mr. Emman Trevor Quilala and Dr. Princess Neptalia Quebral, and was successfully coordinated by Prof. May Evelia Ruadap and Dr. Paculan.
The program concluded with an open forum moderated by Dr. Quebral. During the forum, barangay officials requested the college to conduct livelihood trainings as soon as possible, noting it as the community’s primary concern. The college, in response, assured that such training would be delivered once a common schedule is finalized.
“Adu ti nasursurok ken jay seminar tattay, aglalo jay part iti ’empathy,’ ta as community leaders, dapat ammo tayo talaga iti mangrikna dagiti kasapulan dagiti kabaranggayan tayo,” said one barangay councilor.
