The University of Northern Philippines actively participated in the Unified College Admission System (UCAS) Regional Roll-Out: Expanding Access to Higher Education, organized by the Commission on Higher Education Region 1 (CHED RO1) on April 28 up to April 29 at Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University in Bacnotan, La Union. The university was represented by Dr. Benjie Gapate, Dr. Richard Arruejo, and Ms. Precious Lyn Babida.
UCAS is a web-based platform developed to streamline and standardize the admission processes across State Universities and Colleges (SUCs) in the Philippines. The system aims to support equity-targeted groups, including first-generation college students, members of the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps), solo parent students, students raised by solo parents, persons with disabilities, members of Indigenous Peoples, orphans, children of farmers and fisherfolk, and those from geographically isolated and disadvantaged areas.
UCAS seeks to broaden access to higher education, not only for the general population, but also to the equity-targeted groups.
During the event, UNP representatives engaged in discussions, sought clarifications on the system, and shared insights about their university’s admission processes. They also provided constructive feedback and recommendations for further improving UCAS, reaffirming the university’s commitment to support this effort and in fostering more inclusive and equitable academic community.
