With passion in their voices and literature in their hearts, students at the University of Northern Philippines took center stage at the Public Speaking Competition on May 9, 2025 at Tadena Hall, transforming words into powerful expression of thoughts and conviction.
The event, themed “The Power of Words: How Literature Shapes Minds and Movements,” was more than a competition—it was a celebration of language’s ability to inspire, challenge, and empower.
In the oratorical competition, Kimberly Rin (Political Science 1A) emerged as champion with a commanding performance. Daryl Valdez (BS Criminology 1F) secured second place, while Angel Charmae Del Pinado (Geodetic Engineering 1B) claimed third. Meanwhile, in the speech choir category, BSBIO 1C captivated the audience to become champion, followed by BSCE-BSGE in second place and BIO 1A in third place.
The Department of Languages and Humanities provided a platform for students to enhance their public speaking skills, engage with literature, and build confidence in self-expression. Featuring oratorical and speech choir categories, the competition celebrated linguistic excellence while supporting the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Quality Education (SDG 4) and Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions (SDG 16).
By fostering articulate and socially aware individuals, UNP continues its mission to develop well-rounded graduates who can contribute meaningfully to society. The Department remains committed to using the power of words to shape minds and inspire positive change.
