CCJE hosts seminar on Gender and Culture in the Workplace

On May 19, 2025, the College of Criminal Justice Education held a seminar for graduating fourth-year students, focusing on “Understanding Gender and Culture in the Workplace.”

The event began with a warm welcome from the college dean, Dr. Sina Bestre, who emphasized the importance of cultural competency and gender sensitivity in all professional interactions. Criminology intern Trixy Mae Asuncion energized the audience with an engaging intermission performance.

The resource speaker, Prof. Eric Paligat, highlighted how culture, cultural heritage and gender sensitivity plays a role in the field of law enforcement, from the recruitment stage to the actual work of a Police Officer. He also emphasized the importance of women in law enforcement and their contribution to our country’s police force.

This activity aligns with the university’s goal in mainstreaming gender and development as well as with the SDG 5 in achieving progress towards gender equality and women’s empowerment under the Millennium Development Goals.
