UNP-CGAD Conducts Gender and Safe Spaces Seminar at San Vicente Integrated School

The University of Northern Philippines – Center for Gender and Development recently conducted an extension activity at San Vicente Integrated School on August 29, 2025 as part of its ongoing commitment to gender advocacy and capacity-building. This engagement aims to strengthen awareness and understanding of gender-related issues among the school community.

Dr. Eleanor R. Belizar led an engaging and insightful discussion on gender as a social construct, alongside a comprehensive orientation on Sexual Orientation, Gender Identity, and Expression, and Sex Characteristics (SOGIESC). Complementing this, Atty. Christian A. Casildo provided an in-depth examination of RA 11313—the Bawal Bastos Law or Safe Spaces Act—highlighting its provisions and real-life impact on fostering respectful and safe environments.

Together, these sessions empowered the teacher-participants with critical knowledge and encouraged active participation in advocacy for gender equality and safe spaces in their communities.
