UNP CHS strengthens community service through Health Outreach in Gregorio del Pilar

The College of Health Sciences of the University of Northern Philippines, through its BSEHS faculty and Team Medics officers, joined a Medical, Dental, and Optical Outreach at Our Lady of Pillar Parish in Concepcion, Gregorio del Pilar, Ilocos Sur, on October 5, 2025, bringing essential healthcare services to the community.

The initiative was spearheaded by the Caritas Nueva Segovia Foundation, Inc., as part of its continuing province-wide outreach efforts that deliver vital healthcare services to parishes throughout Ilocos Sur. Through the collaboration of partner institutions and dedicated volunteers, the program sought to advance holistic well-being and provide much-needed medical assistance to underserved communities.

As a key partner in the initiative, the CHS delegation took charge of the health education component by delivering a series of informative lectures and interactive demonstrations on Basic First Aid and Basic Life Support. Through these sessions, participants gained essential knowledge and practical life-saving techniques, equipping them to respond effectively to medical emergencies and promote safety within their communities.

In addition to leading the health education sessions, the BSEHS faculty members and TEAM Medics officers also lent their support to the medical, dental, and optical consultations, helping ensure the seamless flow of the entire outreach program. Their active involvement emphasized the College’s commitment to service learning and its mission to bring healthcare education and compassionate service beyond the University community.

The BSEHS faculty members who took part in the community outreach included Prof. Maria Yolanda Aquino, Program Head; Prof. Leila Sylvia Bautista, Related Learning Experience Coordinator; Prof. Greg Quilana, Unit Extension Coordinator; and faculty members Prof. Vincent Viste, Prof. Almira Gonzales, Prof. Mario Contaoi, and Prof. Evelyn Rafanan. They were joined by TEAM Medics officers Ms. Princess Vie Obrero, Ms. Jodarie Daag, Ms. Khrizzia Alliah Purugganan, and Ms. Mia Bianca Sabio, whose participation contributed to the success and efficiency of the health service initiative.

The College of Health Sciences extended its heartfelt gratitude to Caritas Nueva Segovia, the Nuestra Señora del Pilar Parish, and all partner organizations for their invaluable collaboration and shared commitment in promoting community health and well-being. The activity stands as a testament to the University’s continuing pursuit of excellence in public service, education, and partnership for the greater good.
