UNP Celebrates Excellence in the 2025 Floro S. Crisologo Alumni Awards

In a grand celebration of legacy, excellence, and pride, the University of Northern Philippines Federated Alumni Association honored the most distinguished graduates during the Floro S. Crisologo Alumni Awards Ceremonies held on October 17, 2025 at the Tadena Hall.

Anchored on the theme “UNP at 60: Alumni in Harmony, Alma Mater in Glory,” the event formed part of the university’s Diamond Jubilee Celebration, marking six decades of nurturing competence, leadership, and service among its alumni.

Serving as guest of honor and speaker, Atty. Jose Aquino, former Director of Enforcement and Investor Protection of the Securities and Exchange Commission, delivered an inspiring keynote message that resonated deeply with the honorees and attendees alike.

In his address, Atty. Aquino commended UNP’s consistent commitment to academic excellence and its role in molding public servants, professionals, and leaders across various fields.

“True success is not measured solely by achievements or titles,” he remarked, “but by the integrity, service, and impact we bring to others. The University of Northern Philippines continues to produce men and women who exemplify these values, making the institution a beacon of hope and honor.”

His words set the tone for a recognition, pride, and reflection as the FAA conferred the Floro S. Crisologo Awards to seventeen exemplary alumni who have distinguished themselves in their respective careers and communities.

This year’s roster of awardees for the Floro S. Crisologo Outstanding Alumni Awards truly captures the breadth and depth of excellence that defines the University of Northern Philippines. Representing a wide spectrum of disciplines, the honorees exemplify the University’s enduring legacy as a cradle of academic distinction, professional achievement, and civic commitment.

From the creative realms of the College of Fine Arts and Design, Mr. Geronimo Antonio Singson stood out for his artistic contributions, while in the field of healthcare, Dr. Rhoda Rivada-Redula of the College of Nursing was recognized for her leadership and service. Dr. Ferdinand Lamarca of the College of Public Administration was honored for his exemplary dedication to public service and commitment to good governance. Dr. Erwin Cadorna, representing the College of Arts and Sciences, was lauded for his exemplary scholarship and transformative leadership as the current president of UNP.

The College of Business Administration and Accountancy celebrated Mr. Florencio Renz Rojas, whose professional acumen has elevated standards in business and management. In the realm of information and public service, PLT. Janus Cesar Lazo of the College of Communication and Information Technology was honored for his contributions to communication and law enforcement.

Health and community development were likewise highlighted through Mr. Ryan F. Ugale of the College of Health Sciences and Director Venus F. Rebuldela of the College of Social Work, both of whom have championed wellness and social responsibility. From the Laboratory Schools, Dr. Mario Obrero was recognized for his impact on education, while FSSUPT Bonifacio C. Carta of the College of Criminal Justice Education was commended for his distinguished service in public safety.

Architectural innovation found its champion in Architect Renato Navarro of the College of Architecture, and educational leadership was exemplified by Dr. Alixander Haban Escote of the College of Teacher Education. The College of Engineering celebrated Engr. Ernestina Palos for her technical expertise and contributions to sustainable development, while the College of Medicine honored Dr. Glenda Pichay-Rabino for her outstanding work in the medical field.

Completing this year’s distinguished lineup were Mr. Joey Aquino of the College of Technology, whose dedication to technical education has inspired many; Atty. Leilani Vecina of the College of Law, recognized for her commitment to justice and advocacy; and Atty. Vincent Banjo Tabarrejo of the College of Hotel and Tourism Management, whose leadership has advanced the region’s tourism and hospitality industry.

Together, these honorees embody the ideals of the University of Northern Philippines — men and women whose excellence in their respective professions continues to illuminate the institution’s proud legacy of service, innovation, and integrity. Each recipient was presented with a plaque of recognition, symbolizing not only their individual excellence but also their shared commitment in advancing the ideals of service, leadership, and moral integrity—values deeply rooted in UNP’s founding philosophy.

In his opening remarks, Engr. Nestor Pajaro, President of the UNP Federated Alumni Association, expressed profound pride in the achievements of the honorees and in the continued growth of the university’s alumni community.

“Our alma mater stands tall today because of the collective success of its sons and daughters,” he said. “As we celebrate sixty years of our beloved university, we also celebrate each of you—our living proofs that the UNP spirit endures through excellence, resilience, and compassion.”

Former Vigan City Mayor and UNP Board of Regents member Hon. Eva Marie Medina graced the Floro S. Crisologo Outstanding Alumni Awards as the keynote speaker. In her inspiring address, Medina underscored the vital role of education and integrity in public service, drawing from her decades-long experience as a transformative leader and advocate of heritage preservation. Her presence lent prestige to the occasion, as she called on the alumni to uphold the values of excellence, compassion, and unity—hallmarks of the UNP spirit.

The emotional highlight of the afternoon came when FSSUPT Bonifacio C. Carta, awardee from the College of Criminal Justice Education, delivered his response on behalf of the honorees. His speech, marked by humility and heartfelt gratitude, reflected the deep sense of connection and pride shared by all alumni.

“This award is more than recognition—it is a reminder of our responsibility to live out the lessons our alma mater has instilled in us,” Carta said. “We owe our success to the teachers who guided us, the values that shaped us, and the university that gave us a home.”

University President Dr. Erwin Cadorna was unable to attend the ceremony due to an urgent official engagement in Manila.

The awards named in honor of Hon. Floro S. Crisologo, the visionary founder of the University of Northern Philippines, stand as the institution’s highest recognition for outstanding alumni who have made remarkable contributions to their professions, communities, and the nation.

The program serves as an annual reminder of the university’s enduring impact on local, national, and even global development through the accomplishments of its graduates.

Indeed, the 2025 Floro S. Crisologo Alumni Awards was more than an awarding ceremony—it was a celebration of sixty years of harmony, excellence, and glory.
