The University of Northern Philippines reaffirmed its commitment of supporting local education and youth development as it granted the Schools Division Office (SDO) of Candon City access to its athletic oval, hurdles, and classrooms for the much-anticipated return of the Candon City Athletic Association (CCAA) Meet 2025.
In a letter dated September 24, 2025, Schools Division Superintendent Dr. Gemma Q. Tacuycuy of the Candon City Division, formally sought the University of Northern Philippines’ assistance in hosting the rescheduled athletic events of the Candon City Athletic Association (CCAA) Meet. The request came after the games were postponed due to Typhoon Nando and included the use of the university’s athletic oval for athletics and football competitions, 100 hurdles for track events, and four classrooms to serve as temporary accommodation for participating athletes on September 27, 2025.
With the approval of UNP President Dr. Erwin F. Cadorna, the University of Northern Philippines promptly granted the request and allowed the use of its facilities without any rental fee. This gesture reflects the University’s enduring dedication in supporting community initiatives, fostering youth empowerment, and promoting sports development as vital components of holistic education and social progress.
The partnership turned out to be mutually rewarding, as it provided student-athletes with a safe, accessible, and well-equipped venue to resume their competitions and rebuild momentum after the weather-induced suspension. The use of the University’s facilities became instrumental in the smooth and successful staging of the CCAA Meet, nurturing athletes’ continued pursuit of excellence, resilience, and sportsmanship.
The SDO Candon City conveyed its sincere gratitude to the University of Northern Philippines for its unwavering support and strong partnership, highlighting the University’s invaluable role in nurturing athletic excellence and promoting community development. By opening its facilities and resources for public use, UNP once again demonstrated its deep sense of social responsibility and its dedication to advancing youth empowerment through sports and education.
This continuing collaboration between UNP and the Schools Division Offices of Ilocos Sur exemplifies the University’s enduring advocacy for inclusivity, service, and holistic youth development. It reflects UNP’s broader mission as the university for the people—a dynamic institution that not only champions academic and athletic pursuits but also strengthens community bonds through meaningful partnerships and shared goals for progress.
