DLH faculty uphold Magna Carta of Women in 18 Day Campaign Against Violence

The Department of Languages and Humanities of the University of Northern Philippines took center stage in the nationwide 18-Day Campaign to End Violence Against Women and Children on November 28, 2025. Through the seminar “Empower, Educate, Protect: DLH Faculty Bringing the Magna Carta of Women to Life,” the department emphasized the University’s dedication to safeguard women and children from abuse and discrimination.
Atty. Kathryn Louise Eder, Officer-in-Charge of the Center for Gender and Development, led a compelling session as the event’s resource speaker, shedding light on the rights and protections afforded to women under the Magna Carta of Women (Republic Act 9710). Highlighting the critical role of educators, she called on faculty members to become proactive advocates for gender equality, inspiring them to empower women colleagues and students alike. Her discourse stressed the importance of translating legal mandates into everyday actions that protect, uplift, and advance the status of women in both academic and community settings.
Dr. Mae Oliva Piano led the seminar urging educators and campus leaders to embed gender-responsive principles in every facet of university life—from teaching and research to policy-making. Framed within the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals on gender equality and inclusive institutions, the program reinforced the University’s firm stand against violence and discrimination. By empowering students, educating communities, and protecting individual rights, the initiative highlighted the institution’s ongoing commitment to foster a safe, equitable, and inclusive academic environment.
