The University of Northern Philippines served as the host of Education Night, one of the major highlights of the 25th Vigan Longanisa Festival, held at Plaza Burgos, Vigan City. The event, organized by the Vigan City Government under the leadership of City Mayor Hon. Randy V. Singson, brought together teachers, students, school officials, and community members for an evening that celebrated education, culture, and creativity.
UNP President Dr. Erwin F. Cadorna delivered a message, emphasizing the importance of collaboration between educational institutions and the community in promoting learning, culture, and innovation.
The program’s Guest Speaker, Dr. Margarita Consolacion Ballesteros, shared valuable insights on the role of educators in preparing learners not only for employment but also for responsible citizenship, stewardship, and leadership. She also highlighted the importance of preserving culture even as education embraces new technologies, including artificial intelligence.
A highlight of the evening was the Students and Teachers Altogether in Rhythm and Showmanship (STARS) Competition, where students and teachers performed together on stage, showcasing teamwork, talent, and the lighter side of school life.
The event also recognized the outstanding contributions of educators through various awards, including the Bigueño Teacher of the Year accolades. At the Tertiary Level, the awardee was Dr. Grace Garcia, Officer-in-Charge Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences at UNP.
UNP faculty Dr. Bernard Oliber Arde and Dr. Angelica Arquines served as Master of Ceremonies, guiding the audience through the evening’s program.
Education Night formed part of the city’s week-long festival activities and provided a platform to recognize the significant contributions of teachers, students, and schools to the community.
