The Student of Arts & Sciences Organization (SASO) successfully initiated and led “Laro, Saya, at Salu-salo @ 60: A Golden Celebration of Culture, Sports, and Fellowship” as part of the College of Arts and Sciences’ 60th Founding Anniversary celebration on January 31, 2026, at the Ground Floor of the Student Center Building.
Held in collaboration with the Master of Arts in Guidance and Counseling (MAGC) and Master of Statistics (MOS) programs, the day-long activity brought together graduate students, faculty members, and staff for a sportsfest featuring traditional Filipino games such as patintero, Chinese garter, tumbang preso, piko, and luksong tinik. The games created an atmosphere of excitement and camaraderie as participants laughed, competed, and worked together, reliving childhood memories while strengthening bonds within the academic community.
After the sportsfest, participants gathered for a salu-salo, which provided a relaxed space for conversation, fellowship, and shared celebration. The simple act of eating together further highlighted the Filipino value of unity and togetherness.
In her message, Dr. Grace A. Garcia, Officer-in-Charge Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, emphasized that the activity reflected the true spirit of the anniversary celebration. She shared that initiatives like this, especially those led by students, help build a strong sense of community while promoting wellness, cultural appreciation, and meaningful engagement beyond the classroom. Dr. Garcia also commended SASO, along with the MAGC and MOS programs, for organizing an activity that embodied collaboration and shared responsibility in celebrating the College’s milestone.
As the College marks six decades of service and excellence, “Laro, Saya, at Salu-salo @ 60” stood as a reminder that celebrations are most meaningful when they bring people together—through culture, shared experiences, and genuine human connection.
