VIGAN CITY, Ilocos Sur — The spirit of unity, camaraderie, and shared excellence filled the University of Northern Philippines Gymnasium on February 25, 2026 as delegates gathered for a memorable Solidarity Night in celebration of the SCUAA Regional Games and PASUC 1 Culture and the Arts Festival.
The event brought together university officials, presidents, faculty members, coaches, athletes, and cultural performers from Region I in an evening that highlighted not only competition, but also collaboration and fellowship among state universities and colleges.
Formally opening the program was UNP Vice President for Finance and Administration Mr. Albert Tejero, who welcomed the delegates with an inspiring message emphasizing the importance of solidarity in advancing both athletic and cultural excellence. He stressed that beyond medals and awards, the true victory lies in strengthened partnerships and lasting friendships forged among institutions.
A defining moment of the evening was the message of solidarity delivered by UNP President Dr. Erwin F. Cadorna. In a fitting and joyful coincidence, the celebration also marked his birthday, making the occasion doubly significant for the UNP community. In his address, Dr. Cadorna reaffirmed the shared commitment of Region I SUCs to holistic development—nurturing not only champions in sports and arts but also leaders of character and service. Adding warmth and festivity to the night, he delighted the audience with a song rendition, drawing cheers and applause from the crowd.
Dr. Mario Obrero, President of Ilocos Sur Polytechnic State College (ISPSC), likewise delivered a powerful message of unity, highlighting the enduring partnership among PASUC 1 institutions and their collective mission to elevate public higher education in the region.
Adding glamour and excitement to the celebration was the much-anticipated parade of Mr. and Ms. PASUC gracing the stage in a showcase of confidence, poise, and pride, symbolizing not only beauty and charisma but also the cultural vibrancy of their respective institutions.
The Solidarity Night transformed into a jubilant celebration as delegates took part in community singing and mass dancing, breaking institutional boundaries and coming together as one academic family. The festive atmosphere was amplified by the electrifying performance of the UNP Los Docentes Band, whose music set the rhythm for an evening of joy, laughter, and shared celebration.
More than a social gathering, the Solidarity Night stood as a testament to the enduring bond among Region I state universities and colleges—a powerful reminder that while competition may define the day, unity defines the legacy.
