The College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) of the University of Northern Philippines (UNP) conducted two “BIO-nihan” community extension activities on March 11, 2026, in Cabugao, Ilocos Sur, benefiting students and residents.
The first activity, “LabWorks: Skills in Scientific Instrumentation,” took place at Cabugao National High School in Turod. It offered hands-on training in using lab equipment like microscopes, analytical balances, micropipettes, centrifuges, and spectrophotometers. Participants learned calibration, accurate measurements, troubleshooting, and safety protocols, boosting their scientific literacy and research readiness.
Later that day, “Hugas Kamay, Ligtas Buhay: Promoting Proper Handwashing and Hygiene Practices” engaged Barangay Turod. Interactive lectures, demonstrations, return demos, and games taught hygiene to prevent infections and foster healthier communities.
Facilitated by Dr. Charo B. Rojas along with BS BIO faculty members and BS Biology students, the events partnered with OIC Principal Rocilyn S. Sabaten and Barangay Captain Edgardo S. Garcia.
These efforts underscore CAS’s commitment to extending education and health awareness, strengthening community ties and sustainable development in Ilocos Sur.
