UNP boosts digital infrastructure through Intensive Campus Network Workshop at MMSU

In a bid to further strengthen its digital transformation initiatives and IT infrastructure, the University of Northern Philippines joined the Campus Network Design and Operations Workshop held at Mariano Marcos State University from March 9 to 13, 2026.

The five-day intensive training, organized by the Department of Science and Technology – Advanced Science and Technology Institute and hosted by MMSU, gathered IT practitioners from various higher education institutions and local government units to enhance their expertise in modern campus networking and systems operations.

The UNP delegation was composed of network personnel from the Information and Communications Technology Office (ICTO) namely Mr. Rhesty Tabalno, Mr. Jonathan Riberal, and Mr. Emmanuel Paul Queypo. They were joined by Mr. Karl Max Agup from the College of Medicine, highlighting the university’s collaborative approach to strengthen its technical capabilities. The participation of representatives from both central IT services and an academic unit underscored how initiatives in digital infrastructure and capacity building cut across various sectors of the university’s academic and administrative operations.

The workshop offered participants an intensive, high-level technical training that combined in-depth lectures with hands-on laboratory exercises. Attendees gained practical skills in designing, building, and managing network infrastructures aligned with global best practices. The program covered essential components of organizational IT infrastructure, including structured cabling, fiber optics, switching, and static routing. A key focus of the training was future-proofing the university’s digital backbone, equipping participants with the expertise to implement IPv4, IPv6, and dual-stack network solutions.

The knowledge gained from this training is expected to yield immediate benefits for the UNP community by significantly increasing organizational network performance, security, and reliability. This advanced configuration will help the ICTO team, in return, to enhance the day-to-day experience of users both on campus and off-campus while accessing diverse university technologies by ensuring a smooth and stable internet connectivity for all.
