The University of Northern Philippines (UNP) played a key role in the successful conduct of the 2nd Cooperative Youth Congress spearheaded by the Nueva Segovia Consortium of Cooperatives (NSCC) on March 14, 2026, at the NSCC Plaza in Caoayan, Ilocos Sur.
Demonstrating its strong commitment to extension and community engagement, UNP deployed its experts as resource speakers and facilitators, guiding participating youth in exploring cooperative leadership and sustainable development. The activity highlighted the University’s active involvement in empowering young individuals through education, mentorship, and meaningful partnerships.
The UNP Student Welfare Services Office (SWSO), in collaboration with the Master of Arts in Guidance and Counseling program, led the learning sessions focusing on youth mental health—an essential aspect of holistic development. Dr. Marifel Acena, program head, served as the main resource speaker, sharing valuable insights on promoting mental wellness among the youth.
Also contributing to the success of the activity were UNP guidance coordinators Mrs. Precious Emerald Castillo and Mrs. Rowena Mamuad, who facilitated interactive sessions aimed at strengthening self-awareness, resilience, and leadership among participants.
NSCC Chief Executive Officer Dr. Divina Quemi emphasized the value of the collaboration, highlighting how partnerships with institutions like UNP help empower future leaders through structured activities and awareness campaigns.
The collaboration between UNP and NSCC reflects the University’s continued efforts to extend its academic expertise beyond the classroom. Through initiatives like this, UNP strengthens its role in shaping empowered, socially responsible, and future-ready youth equipped for cooperative growth and economic resilience.
