Cabittaogan, Sta. Catalina, Ilocos Sur – The University of Northern Philippines College of Hospitality and Tourism Management (CHTM) equipped 27 members of the Guimong ti Babai women’s association with practical muffin-making skills during a hands-on training on March 31, 2026. Led by experts, the session aimed to spark small-scale businesses and boost local livelihoods as part of Women’s Month celebrations.
Unit Extension Coordinator Glenn Benzon opened the event with a message saying, “extension services like this bridge universities and communities, fostering skills and opportunities for sustainable growth,” he emphasized.
Barangay Captain Hon. John Christian Raqueño echoed the sentiment, thanking CHTM for the initiative. “This training honors women’s vital role in our progress, especially during Women’s Month,” he said.
CHTM faculty Dr. Joan Marie Guzman and Ms. Aira Chin Bielza, assisted by students, guided participants through every step of muffin production—from ingredients to baking. Dr. Rogelio Quario II, BSHM Program Head, shared pro tips and fielded questions, ensuring hands-on mastery.
This activity underscores UNP’s dedication to community engagement, promoting self-reliance and economic participation. It falls under CHTM’s Community-Based Tourism and Hospitality Enterprise Program, which builds lasting partnerships and sustainable livelihoods.
