The College of Nursing of the University of Northern Philippines (UNP) conducted a two-day Mock Board Examination on April 6–7, 2026, as part of its continuing commitment to academic excellence and licensure preparedness. The activity, held at the UNP Gymnasium, was implemented under the subject Seminar in Nursing 2, integrating academic instruction with practical assessment. It gathered 189 Level IV Bachelor of Science in Nursing students in a structured simulation designed to mirror the actual Philippine Nursing Licensure Examination (PNLE).
The activity was facilitated by Ariel Paiste, MAN, and Iann Fontano, MAN, who serve as instructors of the Seminar in Nursing subject. They were supported by faculty members Fe Tuzon, MAN, and Rizza Abinsay, MAN, who assisted in the conduct of the activity, ensuring that all processes were carried out efficiently and in accordance with examination standards.
The mock examination featured carefully constructed test items aligned with PNLE standards, covering key nursing domains such as medical-surgical nursing, maternal and child health, psychiatric nursing, and community health. These questions were prepared by the four instructors handling the Seminar in Nursing subject, ensuring alignment with course outcomes and board examination competencies.
More than a summative assessment, the initiative functioned as a diagnostic and formative learning experience. It enabled the identification of knowledge gaps and areas needing reinforcement. Post-examination feedback and guided discussions were incorporated to help students analyze their performance and refine their review strategies.
Embedding such activities within Seminar in Nursing strengthens outcome-based education and enhances board examination readiness. As the PNLE approaches, the College of Nursing remains steadfast in equipping future nurses with the competence, confidence, and resilience required to excel in their professional journey.
