UNP advances PQA readiness through benchmarking with TUP and PSU

In pursuit of institutional excellence and sustained quality enhancement, the University of Northern Philippines (UNP) actively participated in a “Meeting of Minds” benchmarking activity with the Technological University of the Philippines (TUP) and Pangasinan State University (PSU) via Zoom on April 8, 2026.

The initiative served as a strategic platform for collaboration, knowledge exchange, and the sharing of best practices among higher education institutions, particularly in preparation for the Philippine Quality Award (PQA)—the nation’s highest recognition for organizational performance excellence.

A key highlight of the activity was the presentation of institutional best practices by PSU officials led by University President Dr. Elbert M. Galas, alongside Dr. Celeste T. Mercado, Vice President for Quality Assurance, and Prof. William V. Cayetano, Director for Local Accreditation. Their insights provided valuable guidance in enhancing UNP’s quality assurance mechanisms and strengthening its readiness for the PQA.

The benchmarking discussions centered on PSU’s quality management systems, institutional processes and strategic approaches aligned with the PQA framework. Through these engagements, UNP key personnel gained significant insights into governance, leadership, process optimization and performance management.

This initiative underscores UNP’s proactive commitment to continuous improvement through adaptive learning and institutional benchmarking. It further reinforces the University’s dedication to advancing quality-driven reforms and achieving excellence in line with national standards.
