UNP Biology students mark milestone in 1st Pinning Ceremony

Marking a historic milestone, the Bachelor of Science in Biology program of the University of Northern Philippines’ College of Arts and Sciences held its inaugural Pinning Ceremony for third-year students majoring in Medical Biology on April 27, 2026 at the UNP Auditorium, symbolizing their formal transition into advanced academic and professional training.

Anchored on the theme “The Next Step Forward: Shaping Globally Competent & Future-Ready Biologists,” the event marked a significant milestone as students, together with their proud parents, celebrated their transition from academic learning to professional training through on-the-job training.

Serving as guest speaker, Dr. Trina Talaga, Head of the Ilocos Sur Provincial Health Office highlighted the critical role that emerging biologists will play in shaping the future of public health and driving scientific innovation, challenging students to rise to the demands of an evolving healthcare landscape.

Dr. Rolando Navarro, Vice President for Academic Affairs, likewise delivered a compelling message urging the students to uphold the highest standards of academic excellence, discipline, and integrity as they transition into real-world practice. He stressed that beyond technical competence it is their character and ethical grounding that will ultimately define their impact as professionals.

The ceremony was further graced by the presence of Dr. Grace Garcia and members of the Biology faculty whose support highlighted the institution’s collective commitment to mold the next generation of scientific leaders.

The pinning ceremony symbolized the students’ readiness to apply their knowledge, skills, and values in real-world settings as they begin their journey toward becoming competent and future-ready biologists.
