The University of Northern Philippines- College of Criminal Justice Education (CCJE) conducted its 3rd Student Research Colloquium on March 31, 2026, at the CCJE Function Hall, anchored on the theme “Equity, Justice, Reform: Reimagining the Criminal Justice System for a Fairer Future.”
The program commenced with an opening message from CCJE Dean Dr. Sina Bestre, followed by a discussion of the evaluation rubrics by Prof. Trinidad Rojo. Dr. Loida Rilveria introduced the panel of evaluators composed of Prof. Jeanne-lyn H. Anicoche, Dr. Loraine R. Madera, and Dr. Scott Jason P. Llanes.
The colloquium served as a platform for student-researchers to present and defend their respective studies, further enhancing their communication skills, critical thinking, and self-confidence. It also emphasized the vital role of research in addressing issues related to crime prevention, law enforcement, and community welfare.
Darlene Flordelisa S. Orpilla and Daniella Mae F. Perez were awarded Best in Research Presentation for their study titled “Lived Experience of Recommitted Persons Deprived of Liberty,” under the advisership of Dr. Marlow T. Pacapac. Mark Angelo Burcena was named first runner-up for his study “Factors Affecting Youth Access to Alcoholic Beverages,” advised by Mrs. Janel Marie B. Abero. Meanwhile, second runner-up honors were given to Carl Adrian A. Agapinan, Chris Brylle T. Alejandrino, and Jhon Lloyd R. Amano for their research on the experiences of Women and Children Protection Desk officers in handling gender-based violence cases, under the guidance of Dr. Loida A. Rilveria.
In the research paper category, the study of Agapinan, Alejandrino, and Amano garnered the Best in Research Paper award, while Orpilla and Perez placed first runner-up. Lyle Garrick O. Arce and Mark Angelo Burcena both received second runner-up recognition for their respective studies.
The activity underscored the commitment of CCJE in fostering a strong research culture among students and in preparing future criminal justice professionals equipped to respond to contemporary societal challenges.
