Chairperson Shirley C. Agrupis of the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) commended the strong regional turnout during the closing ceremony of SCUAA–PASUC 1 2026 held at the University of Northern Philippines, describing the full attendance as a clear expression of unity among State Universities and Colleges (SUCs) in Region 1.
Serving as Guest of Honor and Speaker, Chair Agrupis acknowledged the presence of university presidents, faculty members, athletes, cultural performers, students, and guests who filled the venue. She recognized the gathering as more than the conclusion of competitions, noting that the active participation of SUCs reflected their shared commitment to collaboration, excellence, and public service. She further emphasized that the achievements celebrated throughout the week should inspire continued responsibility and contribution beyond the games.
SCUAA–PASUC 1 2026 was hosted by the University of Northern Philippines under the leadership of President Erwin F. Cadorna. University officials credited coordinated planning and teamwork among offices, faculty, staff, and student volunteers for the orderly conduct of the five-day regional event. President Cadorna remained engaged throughout the games and competitions, overseeing preparations and supporting organizing committees to maintain smooth program flow.
Also present during the ceremony were SUC leaders from across Region 1, including Dr. Elbert M. Galas of Pangasinan State University (PSU) and PASUC-1 President; Dr. Virgilio Julius P. Manzano Jr. of Mariano Marcos State University (MMSU); Dr. Jaime I. Manuel Jr. of Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University (DMMMSU); and Dr. Mario P. Obrero of Ilocos Sur Polytechnic State College (ISPSC).
Winners from various sporting events including Basketball, Volleyball, Football, Futsal, and E-Sports were also awarded.
The ceremony concluded with the formal turnover of hosting responsibilities to ISPSC for the 2027 SCUAA–PASUC 1 Regional Games. Accepting the hosting alongside Dr. Obrero was Hon. Eric D. Singson, Mayor of Candon City, signaling continued collaboration between higher education institutions and local government partners.
With strong attendance and unified participation, the 2026 edition of SCUAA–PASUC 1 served as a demonstration of Region 1’s shared dedication to sportsmanship, culture, and higher education.
