CHS holds three-day seminar on BEmONC and IMCI for Midwifery students
The College of Health Sciences (CHS) recently conducted a three-day seminar aimed at strengthening midwifery students’ skills in maternal, infant, and child health. Held on February 24, 26, and 27, the event carried the theme “Developing the Next Generation of Midwives: A Focus on Integrated Management of Childhood Illness (IMCI) and Basic Emergency Obstetric and Newborn Care (BEmONC).”
The seminar which featured expert speakers who shared valuable knowledge and practical applications was attended by the BS Midwifery students. Dr. Mandy Roie Atendido and Dr. Ana Blesilda Atendido of Ilocos Sur Polytechnic State College emphasized the critical role of midwives in handling emergency obstetric and newborn care. Mr. Gerly Mark Redoble from UNP provided key insights into assessing newborns and infants, while Mr. Limuel Dolorico of Ilocos Sur Community College guided students in applying the IMCI framework.
The seminar aimed to equip future midwives with essential skills for real-world healthcare settings. Participants actively engaged in discussions and hands-on demonstrations, ensuring they are well-prepared to handle maternal and child health cases in their future practice. With the guidance of experienced professionals, the event reinforced the importance of competent and compassionate midwifery care in the community.
