CHS, Rotary Club, and Naval Lodge lead Integrated Medical Mission in Calay-ab

Emphasizing preventive care alongside accessible treatment, a Health Promotion Lecture and Integrated Medical Mission brought free consultations and health education to residents of Calay-ab, Sto. Domingo through the collaborative efforts of the College of Health Sciences (CHS), Rotary Club of Vigan, and Naval Military Lodge No. 3678 on December 7, 2025.

The outreach initiative sought to bridge persistent gaps in basic health services, especially for families with limited access to timely medical care. It functioned not only as a platform for delivering essential medical assistance, but also as a strategic effort to enhance community health literacy and promote preventive care practices. Beyond consultations, the event emphasized early detection, hygiene, nutrition, and lifestyle habits that help reduce common illnesses in underserved areas.

Residents received free consultations from volunteer health professionals, complemented by informative lectures on disease prevention, proper hygiene, and everyday practices that support a healthier community.

Faculty members, students, and volunteers from the CHS worked hand in hand in providing services and leading interactive health discussions tailored to the specific needs of residents. Their active participation reflected the institution’s commitment to community engagement, ensuring that health education remained accessible, responsive, and empowering at the grassroots level.

The initiative further aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 3 on Good Health and Well-Being, SDG 4 on Quality Education, and SDG 17 on Partnerships for the Goals. By promoting collaboration among stakeholders, the activity highlights the value of shared efforts in advancing health awareness and strengthening community wellness programs.

The organizers extended their gratitude to instructors, students, partner institutions, and dedicated volunteers whose combined efforts made the initiative possible. They emphasized that sustained collaboration remains key in reaching more communities with essential medical services. With ongoing partnerships and regular outreach activities, the College of Health Sciences and its collaborating organizations reaffirmed their shared commitment to advance accessible health care and strengthen health education in underserved areas.
