From Campus to Community: Radio Program Amplifies Filipino Language and Identity

In a dynamic blend of tradition and technology, the Department of Languages and Humanities of the College of Arts and Sciences took to the airwaves on August 16 and 23, 2025 its “TGS-Culture, Kapwa-tao-Sika” radio program—spotlighting Filipino heritage and amplifying community voices in celebration of Buwan ng Wika.

Broadcasted live through DZNS Radio Station, the event highlighted the richness of Filipino and indigenous languages, fostering cultural pride and linguistic awareness.

Dr. Esperanza Marites Mariñas, Dr. Evelyn Amano, and Prof. Emely Rapacon underscored the role of Filipino as a bridge across diverse communities and traditions. Meanwhile, Prof. Bernadette Cannoy emphasized the power of language in driving societal change and revolution, noting its profound influence in shaping Filipino identity.

This initiative reflected the University’s commitment to inclusive education, community engagement, and cultural preservation—demonstrating how language and media can be harnessed to promote social awareness and celebrate shared heritage.
